That’s why Subaru has built its reputation on its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system and a symmetrical drivetrain that deliver an innate sense of balance from the ground up. Symmetrical AWD delivers engine power to all four wheels simultaneously. Distributing power across all four wheels - rather than two on conventional wheels - gives you twice the traction capacity. So, under acceleration, there’s more grip for cornering and more capacity to keep on track through the corners.

Subaru X-Mode gives you the confidence to take on new terrain that’s waiting to be discovered. Tackle snow, gravel or dirt by engaging X-Mode at the touch of a button on the infotainment screen. This intelligent electronic system enhances off-road driving by adjusting traction to suit the conditions, helping you safely and confidently arrive at your destination.
X-Mode operates at low speeds - below 40km/h - when activated, the display screen shows the mode selected, roll angle and pitch angle. All Subaru Outback variants are equipped with two selectable modes based on the driving conditions - 'SNOW & DIRT' or 'DEEP SNOW & MUD'.

Subaru Outback offers two engine options depending on your needs. Subaru Outback AWD Sport XT and Outback AWD Touring XT – with the extra power, more torque, and increased acceleration of the 2.4-litre turbocharged Boxer engine – have an impressive 2,400kg* braked towing capacity. For those with a lighter load to tow and an eye on fuel efficiency, the 2.5-litre Boxer engine provides a 2,000kg* braked towing capacity.
Both powerful and reliable engines work in tandem with core Subaru technologies and the Subaru Global Platform (SGP). This streamlined framework features a rigid suspension base, which helps maintain ideal tyre contact and grip, delivering responsive steering, confident cornering and optimum control.

Autonomous Emergency Steering
To help avoid collisions, this function can assume automatic steering control to take evasive action in situations where it is safe and suitable space is available.
Speed Sign Recognition
The vehicle’s cameras recognise speed limit signs and display the speed limit on the Multi-Information Display, enabling the driver to easily recognise the speed limit - even if they’ve missed the road sign.

Subaru Global Platform*
Safety starts with an improved chassis and a body frame reinforced to increase frontal, side and rear crash safety. Designated crumple zones are designed to direct impact energy away from the reinforced passenger safety cell, while SRS* airbags - including dual front, dual front side, dual curtain, driver's knee, and front passenger seat cushion are designed to protect occupants. The Boxer engine sits low in the engine bay and is designed to help protect occupants by sliding below the cabin - not into it - in the event of a severe frontal collision.
